Herpes is a chronic infectious disease in which the skin and mucous membranes are affected. It most often appears on the lips, although it can affect other parts of the body, including the genitals. Outwardly, the disease manifests itself in the form of exanthema, painful red blisters which can cause unpleasant pain. The incubation period of the disease lasts 2-14 days.

The disease’s main symptom is the appearance of an accumulation of small white bubbles that merge and provoke itching and slight tingling. Sometimes other symptoms can occur — headache; weakness in the body; an increased temperature.

There is a lot of talking on the Internet about treating herpes with CBD products. Some people say it can help a lot while others cast a critical eye at this way of treatment. In today’s article, we will find out whether it is true or not and how medical marijuana does affect herpes and its symptoms.

Does CBD Help Treat Herpes?

What do you need to know about herpes?

What can cause herpes? People are often infected by kissing or eating from the same utensils. Fortunately, most people infected with the herpes virus have an inactive form of infection and manage to bypass this unpleasant disease.

At the moment, mainstream medicine states that there is no cure for cold sores. The available drugs only suppress the multiplication of the virus. Therefore, there is always a chance of relapse. The reason for the resumption of the disease can be:

  • other diseases — endocrine, viral, and bacterial;
  • hypothermia;
  • stress;
  • metabolic disorders.

One in five Americans suffers from genital herpes but at least 80% of people with herpes do not even know they have it..

CBD as treatment. Can it help?

What do you need to know about herpes?

Shortly put, yes — CBD products (such as cannabis oil or tincture) can cure herpes. It contains some beneficial components that are able to stop viruses from flaring up and causing more damage to your health. This study also states that cannabinoids may help with persistent infections and also reduce inflammation.

But why exactly is it a beneficial method of treatment? Why can CBD help to cope with herpes? Well, cannabidiol is both a very good anti-viral and anti-inflammatory agent. As an anti-inflammatory agent, cannabidiol has been recognized for its ability to directly combat foreign pathogens and initiate cell repair. In addition, cannabidiol exhibits excellent antiviral properties that allow diminishing negative effects of some diseases.

As for the treatment methods, you can apply cannabidiol creams and ointments directly to herpes sores, but the quickest and most correct application of CBD for herpes is to massage the affected area with CBD balm or to take CBD oil internally.

Note, that it is very important to choose the right CBD product. Many CBD strains differ from each other and contain various qualities and features. If you don’t want to get a professional recommendation, at least try to read CBD products’ reviews attentively and take into account even little details.

There is no research on whether smoking weed is okay or not okay when having herpes. But we know exactly that some strains of herpes can be spread through collective pot smoking (the same applies to common cigarette smoking). So, we would recommend you  choose another way of CBD consumption — just for safety. As we already said, you can try buying a quality CBD oil or tincture. In addition, you may check out some balms and CBD creams for massages.

What Do Scientists Think About It?

Opinions on the use of cannabidiols are mixed. One article on PubMed is devoted to the analysis of several articles that claim that CBD is effective in the treatment of viral diseases (including herpes). Yes, cannabidiols have antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects, but they are still not proven to be 100% effective in treating herpes. Clinical evidence is not yet sufficient to recommend marijuana to all herpes patients for successful treatment.

Therefore, you need to be careful when taking the herb if you are sick with this ailment. With proper funding and interest, marijuana testing will continue, so don’t just focus on marijuana to cure herpes.

For a better effect on the herpes virus, it is best to take CBD oil orally to stop the replication of the virus at the cellular level. Finding the appropriate dosage may be a little harder — the classical method of finding a reasonable CBD oil dosage for cold sores is to start with a minimal amount. For example, you can start with 3-5 mg for the first week. If you do not feel any change, you can increase your dosage to 8-10 mg and continue to increase it gradually until you find the most effective amount of CBD that works for you.

But best just go to a professional doctor that will help you to find the proper dosage and make the process much easier. If you don’t have much time for searching for a specialist you can trust or just want to get professional help right away — you can always get tips from Dr.Weedy online. Besides, you can get a Medical Marijuana Card in our clinic. This will allow you to buy cannabis from your local pharmacy without worrying about the legality of your actions. The card will be emailed immediately and a hard copy mailed the same day.

Besides the oral option, CBD oil can also be applied to the affected skin to relieve symptoms and feel comfortable. Various rashes may disappear if CBD oil is used. CBD is known to have healing and antibacterial properties. To treat a herpes blister, apply some oil and rub it lightly. No need to make intense movements-treat the rash gently so as not to aggravate the situation and not inflame the skin. Most CBD-based ointments and oils are effective in reducing skin inflammation; they reduce itching, swelling, soreness, and redness. The quality of CBD oil plays a big role—the better the ingredients used, the more effective the application of the oil.

    I never knew there could be a connection between CBD and herpes treatment! This article really opened my eyes to the possible benefits of using CBD for something I wouldn't have even considered. I'm curious to hear if anyone has tried this and experienced any relief? It's amazing how versatile CBD can be, and I'm always excited to learn about new potential uses.

    I can confirm. I have herpes and using these ointments and CBD oil greatly relieves the symptoms. however, I want to say that for a complete cure, such a practice is useless. but if you just want to get rid of the symptoms, then why not?

    Wonderful! The only article on the Internet that describes my problem and cites solid scientific articles. On my own, I'll add that CBD really helps to treat herpes if smeared on irritated skin, it really helps to reduce symptoms
